Toyota Hilux - Variants & Features

Toyota recently showed us the new Hilux lifestyle pick-up SUV in India this month, prior to its launch in March 2022. The Fortuner based pick-up competes against the likes of Isuzu V-Max. But besides that, and what we could infer from its reveal shots by comparing it to its sibling, the Fortuner, not much about the upcoming Toyota car was known. Until now. Read on to know more about the Toyota Hilux's variants and features.

Powering the Toyota Hilux...

The new Toyota Hilux pick-up's engine specifications include a 2.8-litre diesel engine that gets a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission options. The power capabilities of the motor are 201bhp with 420Nm of torque. The second figure goes up to 500Nm for the automatic transmission. SUV purists can rejoice, as a four-wheel-drive system paired to a limited-slip differential is offered as standard on the new Hilux. The Toyota Hilux gets only two variants, however. The Standard variant and the High variant. Below is a breakdown of the Hilux's variant-specific features.

Toyota Hilux Standard

The Standard Trim while getting a few four-wheel-drive and safety associated features as standard, misses out on a few other creature-comforts that its top-end variant gets. That said, the Standard Toyota Hilux gets halogen lighting front and rear, with only indicators as LED. It does get rear and front fog lamps in LED, however. Electrically adjustable ORVMs are standard, as well as a multifunctional steering wheel that carries over from its sibling, the Fortuner. Other features include metallic accents on the inside, smart entry with push start/stop and power windows. The trim gets fair entertainment on the inside with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, supported by six speakers and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Unique features in the standard trim include a cooled upper glovebox, multiple drive modes and park assist. Colour options in the Standard trim are limited, as it gets only Super White and Gray Metallic.

Toyota Hilux High

The Toyota Hilux's High trim gets everything the Standard trim gets, along with a few additional creature comforts. The Halogen lighting here is replaced with LED ones complete with LED DRLs. ORVMs, although electric with integrated indicators as standard, get a chrome finish and retractability here. Additional chrome garbs the Hilux High's exterior, along with chrome 18-inch alloys replacing the Standard's 17-inch ones. Instead of fabric seats, this variant also gets leather seats and second-row aircon vents. Colour options are also more varied here, as the Hilux High trim gets Emotional Red, Silver Metallic and White Pearl Crystal Shine, along with the Standard colours.

 

Verdict

As a high-end luxury SUV offering, it's not surprising that the Hilux gets only two variants, albeit significantly loaded. Although, its value-for-money aspect can only be judged by its yet to be announced price. For more information on the Toyota Hilux, check out autoX.

Tata Motors to launch long range Nexon EV soon

The Nexon EV was Tata Motors’ first mass market electric vehicle and it has been a very popular choice in the budget EV segment. In fact, the Nexon EV price, features and range combination is one that is very hard to beat, even for conventional ICE-powered compact SUVs. However, Tata Motors is rumoured to be launching a new Nexon EV soon which will have a longer range!

 

Currently the Nexon EV range is a claimed 300km, while this long-range version is expected to cross the 400km mark, which will substantially increase the practicality factor of the Nexon EV. Will this increased range come at the cost of a much bulkier battery? Well, we don’t think so because battery technology has improved a lot in the couple of years that the Nexon EV has been launched. So, we expect Tata Motors to be able to fit a denser, more energy efficient battery into the same size as the current Nexon EV.

Other changes to the long-range Nexon EV could include more power and torque from the electric motor, plus a facelift which will then be carried onto the standard Nexon in a few months, like we saw when the Nexon EV first arrived. The Nexon EV long range could also get new features, faster charging and an updated interior.

Some sources also say that the Nexon EV Coupe could also come either in 2022 or 2023, which will be bigger than the standard Nexon EV, allowing it to fit not only a bigger battery but the slippery shape will also give it longer range.

Nexon EV long range pricing could be slightly higher than the current Nexon EV Price range of Rs 14-16 lakh. We expect the long range Nexon EV to be priced between Rs 15.5-18 lakh, if it does get extra features and a substantially higher range.

Tiago CNG: What to expect?

The Indian market is one that loves getting the full value of every buck spent. Hence, you can understand the horror when petrol prices went over three-digits, dragging diesel prices with it too. This is where CNG comes in. It’s an undefeated favorite amongst cab aggregators, three-wheelers and even private players looking for an economic daily driver. One of the reasons that make the Tata Tiago CNG an anticipated entrant in the CNG ecosystem is because once launched, it will become only the third manufacturer to offer a CNG kit from the factory after Maruti and Hyundai. While the former offers the WagonR CNG, Hyundai has the Grand i10 Nios CNG in its portfolio.

Tata Tiago CNG Features

In the middle of all the speculations, the Tata Tiago CNG has been spotted outside a dealership without any camouflage and according to the picture, it looks like a mid-spec trim that carries an ‘i’-CNG’ lettering on the boot lid to differentiate it from its fossil-fuel powered sibling. Apart from the lettering, no other badging helps identify if the Tiago CNG will be offered with the XT or the XZ variant. Although, it does look like that a touchscreen infotainment system will be on offer and to keep the price tag in check, Tata will not offer alloy wheels with the same.

Tata Tiago CNG Price

As the Tata Tiago is part of a very price-sensitive segment, the homegrown conglomerate could place the Tata Tiago CNG price anywhere between Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 90,000 over the standard Tiago that retails between Rs. 4.99 lakh and Rs. 7.07 lakh, both prices ex-showroom. If we place it along with the competition, Tata Tiago CNG rivals the Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG priced at Rs. 5.89 lakh, ex-showroom whereas the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG price starts at Rs. 7.06 lakh, exshowroom for the Magna 1.2 Kappa VTVT CNG variant.
