automakers have been gearing up to meet these demands with new and improved

Mahindra Scorpio
The Mahindra Scorpio has been one of the most
popular SUVs on sale in India for a long time running. And fans may rejoice
since it's slated for a massive update this year. Expect not just mechanical
and visual updates in the new upcoming Scorpio in India, but also a whole new design
and underpinnings. Powering the Scorpio will most likely be a 2.0 -litre turbo
petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine option similar to the engine units
previously seen in the current-gen Scorpio. However, the rest of the upcoming
car is slated to be an all-new platform from the ground up. The new Scorpio may
be priced beginning at ₹12 lakhs (Ex-Showroom).
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Maruti Suzuki is slated to launch the Brezza this
year, a much-needed update of the outgoing Vitara Brezza. The sub-four-meter
compact SUV is rumoured to hit showrooms middle of 2022 and will most likely
share underpinnings with Maruti Suzuki's S-Cross. The new Brezza will get a
long list of creature comforts, improved safety tech and better build and high
tensile material for additional safety benefits. Powering it will most likely
be the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology
that does duties in the ongoing variant, of course, updated for current
emission norms in the upcoming car. It'll most likely also boast updated power
figures and better efficiency and the upcoming car may also be Maruti Suzuki's
first offering to get its own, factory-fitted sunroof. The new Brezza may be
priced around the ₹8-12 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) mark.
Volkswagen Virtus
Volkswagen recently revealed its mid-sized sedan,
Virtus, which aims to be a replacement for the ageing Vento while also reviving
the mid-sized sedan segment in India. While the Vento has long been
discontinued now, the Virtus is yet to launch in mid-2022. Much like its cousin
the Skoda Slavia, the Volkswagen Virtus is based on the MQB A0 IN underpinnings
that do duties in other Skoda/Volkswagen platforms and will feature two engine
units. On offer will be a 1.0-litre TSI engine and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol
unit, with the latter doing duties in a sportier GT line trim of the car. The
upcoming car Volkswagen Virtus is expected to be priced around the ₹9-12 lakhs
(Ex-Showroom) mark.
The upcoming cars in India on this list are only
