Top 5 New Car launched in February and March 2022

With a lot of cars due for an update and refreshes in 2022, there’s already been quite a lot of new launches including the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, new Audi Q7 and more. But 2022 is just getting started and there are a lot more cars coming in the coming months. Here are five of the most awaited cars launching in February and March 2022.

Kia Carens — February 15

The first confirmed launch for February 2022 is the Kia Carens. Bookings for Kia’s MPV are already open and if the Kia Carens price is competitive, it should be an exciting product considering the fact that it is a seven-seater and has features like wireless charging, a sunroof, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, ventilated seats, and more. Kia Carens will launch on February 15 and we expect prices to start at Rs 12 lakh.

Maruti-Suzuki Baleno facelift — February 23

Maruti-Suzuki has already teased the first big update to the current Baleno lineup since its launch. The teaser showcases a new sharper front-end, redesigned headlights and we also expect the front and rear bumpers to be redesigned. Inside, expect more features, better materials and the Baleno will also get a heads-up display. It is expected to launch on February 23 and bookings are already open. Baleno facelift prices are expected to start at Rs 7 lakh.

BMW M4 Competition — February 2022

BMW is most likely going to be launching the new M4 Competition in India in February 2022. The new M4 Competition gets a 3-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, mated to a torque converter automatic and generates 496bhp and can do 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. It is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 1.3 crore and is likely to be launched in February 2022.

Lexus NX — February / March 2022

For 2022, Lexus has given the NX a sharper look with single-piece headlamps, redesigned bumpers, a larger spindle grille and new taillights with a light bar at the rear. Inside, the new Lexus NX gets a new display ranging from 9-inches on lower variants to 14-inches on top-spec variants and the regular physical buttons and knobs have also been made digital. Expect the Lexus NX to launch in February or March 2022 at approximately Rs 60 lakh.

MG ZS EV facelift — February / March 2022

It’s no surprise that MG Motor India is bringing the facelifted ZS EV to India. Updates to the ZS EV will include styling bits taken from the Astor and the new ZS EV is also likely to get a very similar feature list to the Astor, whether that will include the ADAS tech is yet to be seen. It is said to have a larger 51kWh battery pack with more range, possibly close to 480km. The MG ZS EV facelift has been spied camouflaged, which could mean that the launch is imminent — either February or early March this year, for a price of approximately Rs 23 lakh.

Upcoming Mid-Size Sedans in India in 2022

The mid-size sedan segment in India always has been significantly popular. It offers the comfort and rideability of a sedan at almost hatchback prices while also being an easy handler in narrow Indian streets. With the recent uptick in creature comforts and technology offered in these segments, sedan automakers have started replacing their older mid-sized sedans with new and technologically updated offerings. Let us draw a clearer picture for you of what's in store for the future. Looking forward to an eventful year, these are some of the upcoming mid-sized sedans in India in 2022 that you should probably hold out for.

Skoda Slavia

Skoda's slated to come out with a new sedan expected to be launched in March 2022. The mid-sized Skoda Slavia aims to replace the previous Skoda Rapid. It is based on the same platform as the Skoda Kushaq. The Slavia is Skoda's second offering under the India 2.0 project. According to Skoda's claims, the Slavia will benefit from localization, leading to possibly quite a competitive pricing. Powering the Slavia will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI engine. The engine will be capable of putting down 114PS of power and 175Nm of torque. It will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission with six-speed automatic transmission options available as well. The Slavia will also get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine option producing 148PS and 250Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic DSG. The Skoda Slavia will be priced around the ₹10.49 - 17.59 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) mark.

Honda City Hybrid

The Honda City is one of the most popular mid-size sedans in India, having been around for generations with various updates and renditions. The upcoming hybrid version is set to launch in India in the middle of 2022. Based on its internationally available variant, the Honda City is powered by a 98hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine. This engine is mated to an integrated starter generator (ISG) and also gets an electric motor that puts down 109hp. The hybrid can be driven in pure EV mode, or with just the engine, or a combination of both. Dubbed the 'Sport Hybrid', Honda aims to offer the best in its class fuel economy, way above the 20kmpl mark, but with significant performance as well. The City may also get an RS variant with a sportier trim. The upcoming hybrid Honda City sedan is likely to come at a premium compared to the current Honda City, and may be priced above the ₹15 lakh (Ex-Showroom) mark.

Volkswagen Virtus

The Volkswagen Virtus aims to replace the now significantly ageing Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market. The new sedan shares its platform with the Volkswagen Taigun SUV and will feature a similar wheelbase as well. The Volkswagen Virtus's engine specifications are currently unknown. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that the sedan will get only petrol variants. This means that while the Vento's 110bhp 1.0-litre petrol plant could do duties in the Virtus, it could also get a high-performance variant with a 1.5-litre TSI engine previously seen in the Taigun, capable of 150bhp and 250Nm. Transmission options are bound to include a six-speed manual as well as automatic six-speed torque converter options, while the larger 1.5-litre unit will most likely get Taigun's DSG automatic gearbox only.

Verdict

While the popularity of the small SUV scene has seen a significant boom in recent years, leading to automotive manufacturers focusing on offering compelling packages in them, the saturation in that market seems to suggest that the sedan class is now slated for similar updates. With this shift, it is possible that this year, mid-sized sedans may take a large bite of the popularity cake.
