The launch of Skoda's mid-sized sedan, the Slavia, is around the corner. The Czech manufacturer has revealed the launch dates of the upcoming mid-sized sedan. The Slavia gets two engine configurations, slated for launch on separate dates. The Slavia is meant to replace the ageing Skoda Rapid in the market. While the 1.0-litre TSI engine configuration of the Slavia is set to be launched on 28th February 2022, the sedan's 1.5-litre TSI variant will be launched on 3rd March 2022. Enter The Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia is a mid-sized sedan that will be
based on Skoda's MQB A0 IN platform underpinning Skoda's Kushaq mid-sized SUV and Volkswagen Taigun. Like those cousin mid-sized SUVs, the Slavia
will also share underpinnings and other bits with Volkswagen's upcoming
mid-size sedan, the Volkswagen Virtus.
Talking about the Slavia's 1.0-litre TSI variant,
the car is powered by a three-cylinder engine. This unit will be capable of
putting down 114PS of power and 175Nm of torque. It will be mated to a
six-speed manual transmission with six-speed automatic transmission options on
offer as well. This variant will be launched on the 28th of February and will
be priced starting at the ₹10.8 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) mark.
On the other hand, the Skoda Slavia will also receive a higher-performing 1.5-litre TSI
engine. This engine is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged TSI unit. This
unit is capable of putting down 148PS of power and 250Nm of torque.
Transmission options in the Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI will include a six-speed
manual transmission, as well as a seven-speed automatic DSG gearbox. The Skoda Slavia 1.5 will be priced
starting around the ₹16 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) mark for the base MT variant.
Verdict: Comfortable Sedan vs Compelling Powerhouse
The Skoda
Slavia is all set to be Skoda's most affordable mid-sized sedan offering,
complete with the latest bells and whistles. At the same time, the Skoda Slavia is ready to disrupt the
market as a compelling offering for petrol heads oriented with performance as
well. Skoda has placed the well-priced offering as something for everyone, and
has possibly, successfully revived the ageing mid-sized sedan class, that found
its popularity falling ever since the competition and popularity in the
