The Tata Altroz is a popular premium hatchback from Tata Motors. Its popularity has to do with its great power options and best in its class safety with top GNCAP scorings. However, one thing lacking in the popular, feature-packed hatch was an automatic gearbox option. Until now. Tata Motors has now teased an automatic version of the Tata Altroz, along with which a new colour scheme may also be made available. Unofficially, Tata has already started accepting bookings for the automatic Altroz. It is expected that the launch will happen late this month, March 2020, after which deliveries may commence March-end. Read on for more information on the Tata Altroz DCA.
New Tata Altroz Automatic Gets New Colour
Recently, a new blue shade has been spied on the
Tata Altroz that may be called Opal Blue. This new colour will join Tata's line
up of six colours for the Altroz. These are High-Street Gold, Downtown Red,
Arcade Grey, Cosmo Dark, Harbour Blue, and Avenue White. The Cosmo Dark is an
exclusive colour of the Dark Edition of the Altroz, while the High-street Gold
and Harbour Blue colours are exclusive to the XM+ variant and above.
Tata Altroz Gets New DCT
The Tata Altroz is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron
engine that puts down 86PS of power. The hatch also gets a sportier 1.2-litre
iTurbo engine that puts down 110Ps of power, and a diesel variant 1.5-litre
unit, good for 90PS of power. While the Altroz has needed a new automatic
variant for some time now, it is unclear which variant of these will be getting
the new transmission. It is possible that the new transmission may be made
available in all three engine units, but it is unknown if that is the case. The
new transmission is a DCT, six-speed dual-clutch transmission (dubbed DCA by
Tata), that will be doing duties in the 1.2-litre Revotron engine. It is likely
that this new transmission will give the Altroz a sporty feel with quicker gear
shifts. The Altroz is available in XE, XE+, XM+, XT, XZ, XZ(O), and XZ+ trims
across its petrol and diesel versions, including in the Dark Edition. It is
possible that the new automatic version will be offered on the Altroz’s XT
variant onwards, with the XZ, and XZ+ variants benefitting from it as
well.
Verdict
The Tata Altroz is already a fresh and
feature-packed offering in the premium hatchback market in India. Along with
being the safest in its class thanks to its top GNCAP scores, the new variant
and colour scheme will likely make the Altroz an even more compelling option.
Though if the iTurbo engine benefits from this new transmission remains to be
seen. While the Tata Altroz is priced in the ₹5.99 lakhs to ₹8.79 lakhs
(Ex-Showroom) range, the DCT variants will likely demand roughly a lakh premium
over their manual counterparts. For more information on the Tata Altroz inIndia, such as its On-Road price in India, check out autoX price section.
