The Top 5 Best Sedan Cars in India
For the past few years, Indian customers have been more inclined toward SUVs that are available in different sizes. Be it sub-compact, compact or full-size SUVs, the sales of SUVs have soared compared to sedans. However, that doesn't mean that the sales of sedans have declined drastically. So, if you are planning to purchase a sedan car, below are a few sedan cars in India that you can consider.
1) Honda City 5th Generation: This car needs no introduction. Since its debut in the Indian
automotive market, this car has been one of the bestselling sedans in the
country. However, a few days ago, Honda Motors announced that they would halt
production of the fourth generation Honda City. Besides that, the fifth
generation Honda City is also the first model to get full hybrid technology in
India. The fifth-generation Honda City is available with both petrol and diesel
engines.
The Honda City's price starts at Rs 11.57 lakh (ex-showroom,
Delhi).
2) Hyundai Verna: Among
other sedan cars, the Hyundai Verna also tops the sales chart in
its segment. It is also a feature-loaded vehicle and is due for a complete
makeover. That said, spy images of the upcoming Hyundai Verna have surfaced
online. So, customers should expect the unveiling of the next-generation Verna
later this year.
As for the powertrain options, the Hyundai Verna caters to
petrol and diesel-oriented buyers. It also offers manual and automatic
transmissions.
But, as of today, in August 2022, the Hyundai Verna's price starts
at Rs 9.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
3) Volkswagen Virtus: The
newly launched Volkswagen Virtus is an offering from VW's "India 2.0"
project. It shares the same engine and platform as other offerings based on
that project. Those offerings include the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda's Kushaq and
the Slavia. Since its launch, the Virtus has been one of the best sedancars of 2022.
Apart from that, it is also worth mentioning that none of their
products is available with diesel engines. That means there are only
turbo-petrol engines on offer: 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre. Both the engines are
fuel-efficient and offer a good amount of power. But the latter engine is for
those who are more performance-oriented.
However, the Volkswagen Virtus price starts at Rs 11.21 lakh
(avg ex-showroom).
4) Skoda Slavia: Another
offering under VW Group's "India 2.0" project. Underneath, the Slavia
is the same car as the Volkswagen Virtus in all aspects, but with a Skoda
badge. The top-spec variant of the Skoda Slavia's features includes ventilated
seats, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless charger, etc.
So, the base model of the Skoda Slavia starts at Rs 10.99 lakh
(ex-showroom, Delhi).
5) Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: This
sedan has been selling like hotcakes since it entered the Indian market. It was
also the first Maruti car to feature a mild-hybrid engine. Earlier, this sedan
used to be available with a diesel engine. But they phased those out when the
BS6 emission norms came into effect.
In short, there is no diesel engine on offer, making it one of
the main reasons behind the decrease in sales of the Ciaz.
However, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz's price starts at Rs 8.99 lakh
(ex-showroom, Delhi).
So, above were a few sedans battling each other in a fiercely
competitive market. Besides them, there are several options in the sedan
segment. For more, such as the list of sedan cars 2022, on-road prices,
